Today we met Dr. Shea and after our appointment with him we decided he will be our doctor from now on. He is frank, he is professional and the experience is there. It gives comfort and confidence that when the time comes, the doctor to take care of mom and baby has the knowledge and experience to do so.
For us this was important.

Richard Shea checked on me after I delivered twins- I am SO thankful he was not my primary OB. I was suicidal and HAD A PLAN and told him this.
He told me to “stop being dramatic.”
He told me to “think happy thoughts.”
He ordered the nurse to give me narcotics and mark in my chart that I was in pain and IGNORED my protest when I said I was NOT in pain, and refused to listen to me any more. He simply told her to give me narcotics to “make her go to sleep.” He is a danger to his patients and the Texas medical board did nothing. He should not only lose his license but be prosecuted for falsifying medical records.

I was skeptical about this Doctor after reading the reviews - but he really was very calm and patient. His bedside manners are a bit blunt and frank - but he does know what he is doing. I'm happy I decided to accept being assigned to him. He delivered my baby girl on 10/16 and followed up with me in the hospital - even talked about mental and emotional health lol.

I definitely would recommend him.

He is one of the best doctors I have seen. He is very upfront and informative, as all doctors should be. He may be too abrasive for some but I like his no sugar coat factor. He told me all of the risk for my tubal ligation and made sure that I was 100% positive on going through with it and it put my mind at ease knowing that he would be able to execute the procedure without a problem. The staff at the office were nice and the day of my surgery all of the hospital staff were very nice, informative, and reassuring. All over a great experience.

If I were ever to become pregnant again I would definitely have Dr. Shea again. He was receptive to my wishes on having a VBAC. He didn't sugar coat anything about the risks which I appreciated. He knew that 100% my wish was to have a VBAC and that's exactly what I got! He tried to do whatever he was capable of doing to avoid me getting another C-section.
I will say one thing I did not like is that he would cut me off sometimes when I would talk. He does have a bit of an attitude like "I'm the doctor and I know more than you." But I believe it's just because he has been doing this for a long time so he really does know what he's talking about.

I did not have a pleasant experience with this judgmental man today. First, he will lecture you on your health and your choices as though you've NEVER been told before. Second, he will just stick the speculum in without any warning and will have the nerve to lecture you on how you're making his job "going into an already small place" even more difficult by clenching up. Third, he will shame you for wanting birth control because "you said you had a vasectomy." He will mean your man when he says this, because your man's body will supercede yours to him. Fourth, he will do his physical testing of you as though you're nothing but a doll to him. He will do it too fast and try to impress you with how much he knows about health.

His bedside manner is cold and judgmental. I told him to his face that he will not be my provider due to his personality and the unprofessional way he handled and criticized me.

I’m reviewing this doctor as someone witnessing a birth, not as a patient. This doctor should not be practicing medicine. He undermined the patient’s stated desires, never once introduced himself, spoke incredibly unprofessionally to the staff and patient, and was overtly disrespectful to everyone involved. It was evident that the nurses feared him, and felt uncomfortable standing up to him in situation that arose where the patient’s wishes we being ignored. The sensitive situation surrounding the birth involved the baby being placed for adoption, and this doctor acted with ignorance, judgement, and apathy toward all parties. I was incredibly disappointed with St David’s for allowing this man to practice and treat clients the way he did.

Dr. Shea was horrible! I was supposed to go to the Georgetown location but they couldn’t fit me in so they had me see Dr. Shea as the intial visit. He was rude, never introduced himself and I told him at least 9 times this wasn’t my first pregnancy. I’m a type 1 diabetic and he also couldn’t remember that and kept thinking I was type 2 which is a very different disease. The worst part of all was that he referred to my vagina as a “vag”. Overall it was such a weird and awful experience. I would never recommend him to anyone and am shocked he has patients.
